Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need to evacuate the building when I leak-test with EZsmoke?
A: No. EZsmoke’s vapor is non-toxic and even has a pleasant citrus smell.
Q: If I’m leak-testing a water system with EZsmoke, will I need to clean any vapor residue that may be left behind?
A: No. EZsmoke's specially formulated and approved vapor-producing solution is a highly refined mineral oil, which is not only food-grade but is also Kosher certified. Any residue will easily wash away.
Q: How long a run of pipe can I test with EZsmoke?
A: Many factors have to be taken into consideration, such as pipe diameter size and if pipe size reductions are in the system. But generally speaking, the Diagnostic Smoke® vapor will continue to travel as long as the backpressure in the system being tested does not exceed the 5 PSI delivery pressure of the EZsmoke. So, in many cases, the smoke vapor will travel hundreds of feet.
Q: How many tests can I get out of one bottle of oil?
A: Approximately 50, 18-minute test cycles, from one 16 oz. bottle. EZsmoke holds 32 oz. of solution.
Q: What kinds of oil can I use with EZsmoke?
A: You should only use the approved UltraTraceUV® solution. Pleasantly scented, it is a patented non-toxic, non-contaminating solution containing a trace dye which marks the leak spots. It also easily wipes clean. Using the wrong solutions can contaminate systems under test and damage the EZsmoke unit.
Q: What pressure limits does the EZsmoke unit have?
A: Delivery pressure is non-adjustable and preset to 5 PSI.
Q: What kind of pressure sources does the EZsmoke unit work with?
A: Compressed air or any inert gas.
Q: Can I use EZsmoke without compressed air or gas?
Q: How far can I test from the EZsmoke unit?
A: It is not uncommon for units to be used with four 25ft extensions (100 ft.).
Q: How long does an average test take?
A: That completely depends on the application. But there is no method faster for finding leaks.
Q: How many people does it take to run the EZsmoke unit?
Q: How long will the EZsmoke unit run a test before shutting off?
A: It is on an 18-minute test cycle timer.
Q: What can I test with EZsmoke?
A: Any system not containing a liquid.
